If you hear these hams on the air, congratulate them, mentor them, and welcome them to amateur radio. A lot of people expended a lot of effort to get them in the amateur radio fraternity, help us keep them there.
Congratulations to Ian Gibson who won the 2 meter handheld donated by the Kentucky District 7 Amateur Radio Emergency Team. Ian had the highest grade average in the class. The Emergency Team has already bought a handheld for the highest grade in the spring class which will begin about mid February. A 440 handheld was donated by another ham for the student with the second highest grade in the class and the winner of that was Jeremy Sebastian. The Northern Kentucky Amateur Radio Club donated a year club membership to all students who passed their exam. I wish to thank all who helped with the class, the testing on site at Dixie Heights, and encouraged these students to keep pursuing their license. We had 22 who tried for their license and as of now 12 have successfully completed their license. We have 6 or 8 that only missed by one or two questions, and hopefully will retest in the near future. I want to thank the Kentucky District 7 Amateur Radio Emergency Team, and the Northern Kentucky Amateur Radio Club. I would especially like to thank John Meyers NB4K for all his help, support and encouragement. In addition the Dixie Heights High School Amateur Radio Club has been created and currently has the call sign KJ4ALW. We hope to be on the air on all bands. We have an Icom 746pro, with a Gap Titan DX antenna on the building, and a Yaesu UHF/VHF mobile with a Diamond Tri Band antenna.
Anyone who would like to donate to Dixie Heights High School to keep this effort going can send a check to Ms. Kim Banta, Principal Dixie Heights High School, 3010 Dixie Highway, Edgewood, KY 41017. She has been so supportive of this program in its creation and progress to this point. Letters of support for this program would also be appreciated. Again thanks to all those who helped this program become a success. |
