TRANSPORTATION CABINET PREPARES TO REPLATE IN 2008
New Designs Will Appear on Some Special Issue License Plates
FRANKFORT, KY (May 7, 2007) - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC)
Officials today announced that new designs will appear on some special issue
license plates beginning in January, 2008.
"We have received requests recently from some organizations to change the
design of their plates," said Commissioner of Vehicle Regulation Roy Mundy.
"Since the next re-plating cycle begins in 2008, we recognize that the time
is right to begin the re-design phase for any groups that desire a change in
their specialty plate. We want to be responsive to any organization that
wants to display a new image to represent their cause."
The Cabinet mailed letters recently to every group that sponsors a special
issue plate, offering them the option of redesigning their plate or keeping
the existing design. The Cabinet must be notified by May 15th regarding the
organization's choice to keep or change a design. Any proposals for a new
design must be received by the KYTC by June 30, 2007. Production of the new
plates will begin in January, 2008.
"Specialty plates showcase Kentucky's diversity, rich heritage and unbridled
spirit," said Crystal Ducker, Deputy Secretary of the Transportation Cabinet.
"The 'Re-plate in 08' will offer some exciting new choices for Kentuckians
who want to support the various agencies and causes that have special issue
license plates."
The KYTC has also offered the redesign option to all universities and
colleges in Kentucky for the University Issue License Plates.
New designs have already been chosen for Kentucky's three nature plates. The
Kentucky Heritage Land Conservation Board voted in January to approve three
new plates, which were chosen by popular vote last year.
